Climate Action Plan Vanpool Initiative

Written by Larry Vaupel, Director of Economic Development | Aug 20, 2024 9:38:45 PM

The City of Vista is currently set to release its Climate Action Plan to reduce GHG emissions and the city could use your help! When it comes to employee transportation, there is a gap in what employers can do – and there is no time like the present. Through a Commute with Enterprise ran vanpool program, employers can support the local commuting needs of onsite workers. As a division of the global Enterprise Rent-A-Car brand, Commute with Enterprise (CWE) is a designated vendor through SANDAG to provide vanpool as a subsidized and reduced cost commuter option.

Vanpools are fully insured, newer model vanpools which are larger, more efficient versions of a carpool, that fills the transportation gap not currently serviced by fixed-line transit like trolley or bus. Local to San Diego County, active daily users average over $6,000 in yearly savings vs. driving a personal car.

Here at the City, we are encouraging Vista employers to partner with SANDAG and CWE to administer this new transportation program, specifically targeting long-distance commuters and those with unreliable or costly transportation. Current partners benefit from improved retention and employee satisfaction scores, a quantifiable reduction in GHG emissions, and the utility of vanpool as a DE&I initiative promoting equitable access to transportation, thus reducing barriers to employment.

Be a leader in San Diego County and contact us here at the City of Vista to learn more about how vanpooling can not only impact your employee wellness, but also help you achieve your own Scope 3 emissions and sustainability goals!
